Where We Started
Jarvi Seeds & Nursery was established in 2012 in Bharadiya, Valiya, Bharuch — a small village in Gujarat that has since become the origin point of two of India's most commercially successful proprietary guava varieties.
The idea was simple: Indian farmers deserved better planting material. The standard guava saplings available in the market were inconsistent, low-yielding and unsuited to the realities of Indian summer temperatures and commercial farming economics.
The Development of Jarvi Red
Work on the first proprietary variety began in 2008. Over three years of field trials, rootstock development and selection, Jarvi Red emerged — a rounded, deep red-purple pulp guava with 55 tonnes/hectare yield potential, 260–275 mg Vitamin C per 100g and just 3–4 seeds per 100g of fruit.
It was everything commercial farmers needed: reliable yield, premium pulp colour, low acidity and exceptional table-purpose quality. Word spread quickly through Gujarat's farming community.
Jarvi Red-1 — The Evolution
By 2016, farmer feedback consistently flagged one problem: Jarvi Red struggled with fruit setting in temperatures above 34°C. For most of India's commercial guava belt, this meant reduced productivity in peak summer — a significant commercial limitation.
Four years of targeted development followed. In 2020–21, Jarvi Red-1 was introduced — a pear-shaped (necked) variety with 60 t/ha yield, 450–500g average fruit weight, higher TSS of 14–15.5°Brix and complete heat tolerance up to 45°C.
