Jarvi Red vs Jarvi Red-1 — Which Guava Variety is Right for Your Farm?

Two Varieties. One Lineage.

Both Jarvi Red and Jarvi Red-1 were developed at our nursery in Bharadiya, Valiya, Bharuch. They share the same deep red-purple pulp, low acidity and table-purpose suitability — but differ significantly in fruit size, yield, heat tolerance and seed count.

This guide helps you decide which variety fits your farm and market.

Key Differences at a Glance

Jarvi Red was developed in 2008–09. It produces rounded fruit weighing 350–400g with 55 tonnes/hectare average yield. Its Vitamin C content is 260–275 mg/100g with a TSS of 13–14°Brix. It has just 3–4 seeds per 100g — making it exceptionally clean for table consumption. The main limitation is fruit-setting difficulty when temperatures exceed 34°C.

Jarvi Red-1 was developed in 2020–21 to solve exactly that problem. It tolerates heat up to 45°C with no fruit-setting issues. It produces pear-shaped (necked) fruit weighing 450–500g — significantly larger — with 60 tonnes/hectare yield. Vitamin C is higher at 280–300 mg/100g and TSS reaches 14–15.5°Brix, meaning sweeter fruit.

When to Choose Jarvi Red

  • Your farm is in a cooler region (average max temperature below 34°C)
  • You want minimal seeds — ideal for premium table markets
  • You prefer the original rounded fruit shape

When to Choose Jarvi Red-1

  • Your region regularly sees temperatures above 34°C (most of Gujarat, Rajasthan, Maharashtra interior)
  • You want higher yield and larger fruit weight for wholesale
  • You prioritise higher TSS (sweeter fruit) for urban markets
  • You want year-round reliable production regardless of season

Our Recommendation

For most commercial farmers in India, Jarvi Red-1 is the better choice in 2024. The heat tolerance advantage alone covers most of the Indian subcontinent. The higher yield, heavier fruit and better TSS make it the more commercially attractive option.

Jarvi Red remains the choice for farmers in cooler, high-altitude regions or those specifically targeting niche markets that prefer minimal seeds.
